Tilleli

Overview

Tilleli is a social networking app that focuses on events and parties, bridging the gap between finding large public events and small gatherings.

It is designed to be a one-stop source for upcoming events that allows users to create and share their own experiences with other users as they connect with one another.

Our Goal

My Goal

The goal of Tilleli is to connect users on a single platform to socialize, host, create, and find events.

Additionally, users get access to several features that help them connect, share, and inform others.

My goal as a UX designer was to provide thoughtful solutions to new and pre-existing problems within the platform, while working with the team to refine and implement the best solutions.

How I helped

As part of the design team, I worked primarily on 3 key features of the app.

I worked on the onboarding process, the profile section*, and the chat feature.

*Currently Under NDA

The onboarding process is designed to be an introductory experience that explains the value of Tilleli while acting as guide on how to use the app.

The profile section is the most personalized portion of the Tilleli app, allowing users to see their followers, events they're hosting, post comments, and other content.

The chats feature of the app allows users to communicate with one another with group chats, read receipts, micro-interactions, and media sharing.

Research & Discovery

Uncovering the problem

People are looking for more and more ways to connect, but there are new challenges that leave many people worried and unprepared for what the future may hold for event planning. Tilleli provides ways to find and host events for online and in-person gatherings, but brings additional value with how it caters to users' concerns and traditional behaviors.

Some things we know about our users...

Posts big events on FB/SC Stories

Only shares event info via text or DM

Sends party invites through social media DMs

Fear of attending public events because of Covid risk

Searches online about events heard through word of mouth

Uses all available social platforms to send out invites

Identifying the opportunity

Identifying the problem

Most Tilleli users deal with the issues of...

  • Connectivity

  • Content and event curation

  • Tracking their events

So, how might we create tools that allow users to organize themselves and advertise their content for their fans and followers?

Designing

Because we know Tilleli users want to connect with others, curate and streamline their content, and track analytics of their past and upcoming events, I know that I should design features that allow them to do just that

Onboarding Process

I created a short series of slides for new users to get a feel of what Tilleli is all about. My goal here was to be informative and visually captivating as to reduce the time users spend reading and increase their willingness to sign up.

In this process I provide information, guide users to sign up, and walk them through the account creation process. This is the first impression of the actual app so I wanted to make it a great one.

Screens and User Flow

Here, users have the option to skip the onboarding or follow through to learn about what the app has to offer and also access different login and sign up options.

Chat Feature

I took the opportunity to work on the chats feature for the app as we needed a way to connect users and provide them with a space to share, thoughts, ideas, and media directly.

My challenge here was to make texting in the app fun, quick, and intuitive.

User Flow

Users are expected to take the journey to the chat feature through the hamburger menu in the top right corner of the screen. From here, they can access group chats, voice messages, images, and more.

Prototype

We wanted the chat to be accessible through the expandable menu rather than the tab bar because the main purpose of the app is "event hosting" and we wanted to focus user's attention more on that.

I can't show this part of the process just yet.

This portion of the app plays a key role in Tilleli's unique identity and is currently under NDA until the product officially launches.

Reflection + Final Thoughts

I started my journey at Tilleli with an open mind and tons of curiosity.

And through this experience I was able to meet and connect with several other UX designers, each with a particular focus of their own. I enjoyed the problem solving challenges and felt encouraged to offer input on the direction of certain aspects of the new platform, like icon styles, graphics, and layouts. Overall, I'm glad I took this opportunity to learn and grow as a designer, and I'm just as glad to have made a significant impact on a growing start up company.
